Derwen College in Shropshire has appointed a new business and finance director who is already a familiar face.
Andrew Smith has returned to the college after a three-and-a-half year break away from the education sector, bringing a renewed enthusiasm for the sector coupled with skills and contacts from the business world.
“When I saw the appointment advertised I just knew I had to go for it and grab this opportunity to work at Derwen once again. This new role of Business and Finance Director really provides the opportunity for me to utilise my wider skills that I acquired in my previous role which can now be used and to help drive the college forward alongside members of the Leadership Team.
"I am excited and privileged to return to this college. This is a challenging role in a difficult climate but it is, at the same time, massively rewarding to be part of a team that helps shape the future of young people with learning difficulties and disabilities,” said Andrew.
Mr Smith is already making contacts with local and regional businesses discussing the many ways that industry partnership working is benefitting the business sector. He said it was good to see so many familiar faces when he returned, who have over the years made the College the success it is.
Derwen College is changing lives and smashing perceptions about young people with learning difficulties and disabilities and their ability to contribute to their own community. As a flagship college, charity and business in Shropshire Derwen College continues to lead the way in many areas..
