Waste management firm Reconomy was named as Company of the Year at Shropshire's glittering business 'Oscars' on Friday.
More than 600 business people from the county attended the Shropshire Buusiness Awards at Telford International Centre and saw the Telford company hold off competition from Culina, Dale Brothers UK and TTC Group to take the top award of the night,
Reconomy, which employs around 300 people from its base in Stafford Park, helps thousands of companies and organisations dispose of waste in a responsible and sustainable way.
The next biggest winner on the night was Stallion AI Services. The Whitchurch-based firm is the UK's largest equine semen storage and distribution centre, and it won both the International Trade Through Export award and the Technology, Enterprise & Innovation award.
The other winners were: Choice Shops, for Best Online Business, Micher-Lockett & Co Opticians for Outstanding Customer Service, J&PR for Business in the Community, Qi Van Systems for Manufacturing, Transport & Logistics, Hadley Park House Hotel for Tourism, Leisure & Hospitality, Global Freight for Apprenticeships, The Inspirational Learning Group for Best New Business and Ascendancy Internet Marketing for Best Small Business.
Graham Wynn, chairman of TTC Group and Marches LEP, was recognised for his contribution to the Shropshire community with the John Clayton Award.
Stephen Smith, the founder of multi-million pound retailer Poundland, was the guest speaker on the night.
The event is organised by Shropshire Chamber of Commerce, and chief executive Richard Sheehan said: “Once again we are delighted with the number and the calibre of applications.
“We have had a record number of first-time entrants this year, with amazing success stories to share.
“Since its launch back in 2001, the Shropshire Business Awards has been famed as the largest celebration of our county’s business success."
