Workshop for sports clubs

Top tips to help Shropshire sports clubs provide ‘extraordinary experiences’ for young people will be revealed at an evening workshop in Shrewsbury this month.

The ‘Club Experience For Young People’ session is being hosted by University Centre Shrewsbury on February 28, running from 6.30pm to 8.30pm.

It is being organised by county sports partnership Energize, in conjunction with Club Matters, Sport England’s one-stop shop which provides free and practical resources to sports clubs.

Joe Lockley, club development manager at Energize, said: “This workshop will have a specific focus on young people aged between 11 and 25 – covering any kind of sport.

“The world is changing, and if sports clubs across Shropshire are to succeed, they have to ensure they are chosen above the many other opportunities which now compete for young people’s time.

“How do they do that? By making their club a place that people want to keep coming back to, and by giving them extraordinary experiences.”

The workshop will look at why delivering a great experience for young people has become more important than ever, and how club organisers can listen and respond to the needs of its participants.

There will also be tips and advice on how to consistently deliver a great experience, and a shopping list of action points which can be taken away and worked through with club members.

Joe Lockley added: “We strongly recommend that two people from each club attend this workshop so you can get the most out of it. This is a closed workshop, with spaces reserved for youth-specific sports clubs.”
