Furrows supports Oliver in charity climb

Shropshire motor dealers, Furrows, are backing an intrepid charity fund raiser who is set to scale Mount Kilimanjaro.

Oliver Preece, of Telford, will lead a team of 40 other climbers on the expedition in September, and they’re all raising funds for the Meningitis Research Foundation.

Oliver’s dad, Neil, works for Furrows, and now the company have sponsored his challenge – just one of the causes they’re supporting during their centenary year.

“As a group of students, we are raising money for the Meningitis Research Foundation because students are the second largest group at risk from the disease, after babies and toddlers,” said Oliver, who is currently studying at Warwick University.

“I’m also taking part in the challenge in memory of my Grandad, Wilf, who suffered from septicaemia.”

The money that Oliver raises will be spent on research into prevention, detection and treatment; raising awareness of meningitis and its symptoms, and the vaccinations available; and providing support for people who have been affected.

Furrows Group joint managing director, Dave Farthing, said they were very pleased to be supporting Oliver’s charity effort.

“Climbing Mount Kilimanjaro is a daunting challenge, but to raise funds for such a worthwhile charity is great motivation for Oliver to complete the expedition.

“We’re always keen to support local organisations, and particularly local people who are pushing themselves to the limit for good causes, so it’s great to be involved in Oliver’s campaign.”

Oliver’s aim is to raise at least £2,000 for the Meningitis Research Foundation, and he is already over half way towards his fundraising goal.
