Cyclists take to the road in Telford

Over 70 cyclists made the most of glorious weather to put themselves to the test on Telford’s very own Tour event.

The Tour de Ford challenge, in association with Team Sky, began at Furrows FordStore in Haybridge Road, in Hadley, and cyclists could choose between a 30-mile route and a tougher 50-mile challenge.

Furrows Group New Car Sales Manager, Antony Frost, said: “We have a long-standing and strong relationship with Ford, and it was a great opportunity to work with them and Team Sky on this event.

“Local cyclists really enjoyed getting a feel for the Team Sky experience on our local roads, and we had cycling fans of all ages and abilities taking part.

“In fact, the event was so successful, we are already making plans for an even bigger and better cycle challenge next year as part of our Furrows centenary celebrations.”

Ford are Team Sky’s exclusive supplier of cars and vans, and they are hosting the Tour de Ford events across the country to coincide with this year’s Tour de France.

The free group cycle rides give cyclists the chance to get a taste of the professional cycling experience as they are accompanied by Ford Mondeo estate cars carrying the blue and black Team Sky livery – the same vehicles used to support the 2016 Tour de France winning team which includes three-time champion Chris Froome.

The circular Telford event began and ended at Furrows of Telford, and followed a route plotted on Strava, the social network for athletes.

The Tour de Ford celebrates Ford’s partnership with Team Sky, which gives the cycling team access to a range of Ford vehicles to provide support for all key areas of their racing and non-racing programme.

Tour de France fans will be familiar with the Ford Mondeo estates used by the team’s sports directors and team mechanics, as they are some of the most visible vehicles in the peloton.
