Music centre up for sale

A well-known property near Shrewsbury town centre has come onto the market with an asking price of £1.1 million.

Salop Music Centre, St Michael’s Street, Shrewsbury, which is owned by SMC Properties, is being sold therough Halls who describe it as "a prime commercial, retail and residential development opportunity". 

It has been put up for sale to allow the business to relocate to more modern premises elsewhere in the town.

Salop Music Centre has been based in Shrewsbury since 1975 when it had a property in Town Walls and moved to its present home in 1987. In addition to the centre, there are four other music and audio associated tenant businesses located in the building, where around 15 people are employed. All these businesses will be relocating with Salop Music Centre and will be ongoing. 

“We own the building and it’s in a prime location in Shrewsbury, which should prove attractive to developers,” said Andy Rowley, from Salop Music Centre. “By selling the property, it will allow the company to move to more modern, purpose-built accommodation in the town, which has excellent access and parking and will allow us to grow. 

“Most of our customers drive to visit us, so that we don’t need to be in the town centre.” 

The total site covers 0.813 acres, with the existing premises having an internal floor area of around 9,000 square feet, which benefits from valuable A1 (Retail) consent.

The main part of the site has planning consent for 24 residential units and there is a large car parking area with frontage onto St Michael’s Street. 

The majority of the property is currently arranged to provide retail showroom accommodation with a small mezzanine floor area and commercial space that could be adapted to retail.
