New mobile phone products come to market

New services which will boost mobile phone usage in Shropshire are set to be launched.

County mobile communications speciailist Matt Sandford, managing director of Pure Telecom, believes the services are an important step forward for the county.

Wifi Calling and 4G Calling will allow customers to make and receive calls over the wifi network even if they can't connect to the mobile network - and they'll be able to enjoy clearer calls with 4G Calling.

“Both of these free products, being introduced via new apps in April, will make life easier for people living in regions where mobile coverage is not great, such as some rural areas,” said Matt, whose company is based on Shrewsbury Business Park.

“This should mean a big boost for business and domestic customers in Shropshire,"

At launch, only the iPhone 7 and 7 Plus will support Wifi and 4G Calling on O2 monthly phone and SIM only tariffs. However, more devices will be included soon, including Android phones and older iPhones.

Calls are included as part of a customer's usual tariff allowance, with out-of tariff calls being charged at standard rate.

Customers will be able to make and take calls on the London Underground using wifi and more public places are being added all the time and calls on 4G should sound much better than standard 2G.

Wifi Calling will be available anywhere in the UK. 4G Calling will initially be available in London, Leeds and Slough but will be rolled out nationally by the autumn.
