Rebrand for Shrewsbury sports company

A new sports education and training company has been launched, replacing a long-established brand in the county.

Sportsjam Coaching, first founded 17 years ago and latterly known as Sportsjam Education, will now be known as PROTEL, with its education arm known locally in Shrewsbury as Severnsports.

This separation of the two business interests allows Sportsjam to continue to operate as a retailer of teamwear, leisurewear and sports equipment, and PROTEL to expand into the education and training market, creating 10 new full time jobs.

PROTEL (professional, training, education, life skills) is a recognised training provider, working with businesses, schools and other agencies to deliver apprenticeship programmes to young people aged 16+, supporting the Government initiative to get young people skilled and into work.

One of the key forces behind the change is director of education, Sport and Training, John Rhodes, who joined the company two years ago.

With over 20 years of teaching experience in the UK and Australia, he said he is delighted the new venture is taking shape.

“It has taken well over a year to get here, with a lot of reshaping and restructuring. We are not just preparing a business for demand, but one which builds relationships with partners and is more holistic than ever before. We see this as a business for the future, which will be thriving and sustainable. We will be working with organisations from all sectors to deliver highly targeted programmes that continue to build on the reputation we had as Sportsjam Education.”

With a staff of highly qualified coaches and teachers, SevernSports will continue to deliver Sportsjam’s  renowned PE lessons, in addition it will expand its offering to provide schools with out-of-hours clubs and holiday courses.

John adds: “We’ve got a lot of exciting plans going forward – including offering team building days with delivery from our own venue and becoming a sports intermediary, to support the young people we train on their road to success.”

Severnsports will be teaming up with Go-Kart Party this May half term to provide multi-sport experience days at their venue in Annscroft. Visit @ProtelSevernsports on facebook to find out more.
