Farming discussion on February 15

Farmers and rural business owners will be "flies on the wall” during a discussion between a farmer and his professional advisors as part of a special event in Welshpool next week.

The event, called ‘Your Future, Your Farm’, will see a panel of experts imparting their advice to a guest farmer who is considering succession planning, diversification and other options for the future of his business.

Members of the audience will be able to listen to the discussions and ask their own questions and at the end of the seminar. The event is free to attend and will be held on February 15 at Welshpool Livestock Sales, Buttington, near Welshpool, starting at 6pm.

Brian Evans, managing partner and head of Lanyon Bowdler’s agricultural law team, said the evening would be the ideal opportunity for farmers to consider the legal and financial issues surrounding the future of their business.

He said: “We will be joined on the panel by Colin Jones of Whittingham Riddell, Adrian Jones of Barclays Bank and Richard Corbett of Roger Parry & Partners.

“Between us we have a great deal of experience in working with the farming community and helping to resolve issues which can be complicated and very involved.

“Our guest farmer on the night will be Stephen Kenyon, senior agent of NFU Mutual Welshpool, and he will be putting forward some challenging questions to our panel about succession planning, diversification, making tax digital and cyber fraud.

“The audience will be a ‘fly on the wall’ to those discussions, and hopefully they will find it a very interesting evening, being able to listen to advice from professionals who deal with these types of issues on a day-to-day basis.

“The evening is ideal for farmers operating a business of any size and anyone attending is almost certainly going to hear something which they will find useful and helpful to their particular circumstances.

“We have staged this style of event before and it proved very popular so we are asking anyone interested in coming along to book their place.”
