Record figures for community bank

Just Credit Union, Shropshire’s not-for-profit community bank, is reporting record figures over the Christmas period.

The month of November not only resulted in most loans in a day, but saw a 26% increase in loan volumes compared with the same month last year.

The results are contributing to the most successful Christmas in Just Credit Union’s 15-year history.

It is also a record start to a financial year for the Shropshire and Telford & Wrekin lender which builds on a very successful 2017 for Just Credit Union.

New members and loan applications are at a record high – both up well over 10% year on year and continuing to rise.

Chief officer Karen Farrow said: “The start of our new financial year has seen a record number of loan applications, number of loans granted and new members joining the Credit Union.

“This reflects our continued approach to working locally within local communities and with local partners, ensuring that we are seen as a trusted and ethical financial services provider. Our savings are recirculated to the benefit of both our community and the local economy.

“What is particularly pleasing is that each of our loans includes a savings account which helps our members develop a savings habit for the long term.”

The year of 2017 has been a most memorable one for Just Credit Union who have been recognised by the prestigious Fairbanking Foundation and awarded the highest rating of five stars.

Just Credit Union’s positive impact on the community was recently recognised by Social Enterprise UK who placed them as a finalist in the national Social Enterprise Awards.

During the year Just Credit Union has worked closely with a number of community organisations as well as attending numerous community events.
