Irish trip for surveyors

A team of Shropshire surveyors made a flying visit to Dublin after being instructed to survey a building on the banks of the River Liffey.

Towler Shaw Roberts is regularly asked to undertake work in London, the firm said, but this was the first time it had been invited to share their expertise in Ireland.

Chris Hedley, a building surveyor for TSR, said: "We’re becoming used to being asked to work outside our region but this time an enquiry came in for a survey of a city centrebuilding in Dublin, right on the banks of the River Liffey.

"The job was a quick turn around which meant we had to fly out to Dublin the day after being instructed. Attracting this kind of work again underlines the firm's impressive reputation further afield."

Mr Hedley added: "It was interesting going to Ireland because we've gained a flavour for the market over there. There's a great demand for office space in Dublin but not enough supply. After the downturn in 2008-2010, the commercial property market is returning, coupled with growth in Ireland's economy last year.

"Brexit remains on the agenda and our visit coincided with the talks taking place between Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland to try to work out the potential impact upon both economies.

"There's a lot of talk about international companies considering relocating to Dublin to have an EU market presence, which means there will be an even greater demand for office space."
