Equine open day hailed huge success

More than 1,000 breeding and equine enthusiasts flocked to Stallion AI Services and Twemlows Stud Farm’s Open Day near Whitchurch to enjoy a presentation of some of the top stallions in the world.

The event, a celebration of British breeding and a firm favourite with visitors from all over the country, raised thousands of pounds for the Rare Breeds Survival Trust who will put the funds to good use for the preservation of Britain's beloved heritage breeds.

Now in its sixth year, the Stallion AI Services and Twemlows Stud Farm Open Day has continued to grow and attract a wide range of audiences who enjoy not only an entertaining and diverse ridden and in-hand display of 26 stallions, where young up-and-coming and native breed horses rub shoulders with international Olympic and Grand Prix legends, but also a vibrant trade stand area featuring anything from specialist equestrian businesses and studbooks to small food and drink producers from the surrounding area.

Visitors were also treated to tours of the neighbouring Twemlows Stud Farm where they were able to meet some of this year’s foals and learn about the management of mares, and their pregnancies and offspring.

In between the stallion displays, the stallion barns were open for keen breeders to meet their favourite stallions up close and chat to their owners.

Stallion AI Services' owner Tullis Matson said: “We are delighted that it has been another record year for our popular Open Day.

“The team and our stallion owners have worked very hard to make it a very special event, a celebration of British breeding that makes people feel welcome and entertained.

“I am personally very proud of everyone who has been a part of it, including, of course, our lovely stallions who have all been enjoying their moments in the limelight.”
