TripAdvisor manager guest speaker at event

Tourism businesses across Telford and Shropshire will hear from one of the sector's leading global brands during the official launch of the Big Tourism Campaign by Discover Telford on Friday 28 April.

A senior manager from TripAdvisor is the guest speaker at the event at The Shropshire Golf Centre.

The event is being organised by Telford & Wrekin Council through Discover Telford which is the official destination marketing organisation for Telford, and also represents tourism businesses across Shropshire, offering free to join membership.

The Big Campaign event will see the launch of a new tourism initiative to establish Telford and Shropshire as a UK tourism destination of choice.

The multi-channel campaign will include a celebrity-led promotional video, new website, a new digital marketing platform and a calendar of seasonal marketing campaigns that will reach across national online and print media.

TripAdvisor’s Chad Shriver, a senior destination manager for UK & Europe, is the guest speaker at the event and will share with the audience how Telford and Shropshire tourism businesses can embrace digital to achieve greater success in leisure tourism.

He will also share how businesses can benefit more from TripAdvisor with top tips and strategies.  Chad is a celebrated speaker and has spoken at tourism events throughout Europe and is a tourism professional having worked for many national and international tourism authorities.

The Big Campaign sees Discover Telford working in partnership with DEFRA, the Department for Environment, Food & Rural Affairs, to support growth in rural tourism throughout Telford and Shropshire.

The event will feature speakers from across marketing, PR, digital and rural tourism, including industry expert Jo Jury, RDPE Programme Manager at DEFRA. Jo will share the work that DEFRA are doing in boosting growth in rural tourism and also announce news of a new tourism fund for rural accommodation businesses.

Cabinet member Councillor Gilly Reynolds at Telford & Wrekin Council said: “This is an exciting time for tourism and the Big Campaign is Telford’s opportunity to unlock our potential as a visitor destination.

“The campaign will feature our iconic tourism attractions, our market towns and our great countryside all of which offer a memorable visitor experience.

“The campaign is a first for Telford and we intend to give local businesses all the tools they need to get involved. All businesses need to do is to join our new free Visitor Economy Forum”.

To attend the Big Campaign launch event on the 28th April at The Shropshire Golf Centre and to register to get involved in the campaign, all businesses need to do is register.
