Cricket club bowled over by support

Salop Leisure has confirmed headline sponsorship for Shrewsbury Cricket Club for the current season.

Shrewsbury Cricket Club was formed in 1839, and they have been playing at their current home on London Road since 1914. Salop Leisure, based less than a mile away, has been supporting the club through sponsorship since 1999 spearheaded by the company chairman Tony Bywater.

“Tony Bywater has always been so passionate about sport and Shrewsbury. No business locally does as much for local sport as Salop Leisure,” said Rob Foster, chair of Shrewsbury Cricket Club.

“The sponsorship Salop Leisure has provided helps us in so many ways, and across the men’s, women’s, and junior teams. It makes running a cricket club affordable, especially at a time when we’re seeing so many rising costs. We are seeing a lot of growth in our ladies and girls’ teams, and support from local businesses has helped that happen.

“Our first team finished fourth in the league last year, so we hope to build on that this year and I’m sure we have a good season ahead of us. It’s free to watch the teams play – we would love to have more people cheering us on this summer, so please come and join us.”

Salop Leisure’s headline sponsorship includes sponsoring the team’s blue kit and having advertising display boards at the club.

Ed Glover, head of Marketing at Salop Leisure, said, “It gives us great pleasure to continue our longstanding sponsorship of Shrewsbury Cricket Club. We are proud to support grassroots sport locally, which enriches our community. We wish all the teams at the club the best of luck in the upcoming season.”
