Teams from two Shropshire accountancy firms have taken to the football pitch to battle it out to raise vital charity cash.
The teams from Dyke Yaxley Chartered Accountants in Old Potts Way, Shrewsbury, and WR Partners of Shrewsbury Business Park, took part in the “Accounting Cup” – a match which is now an annual event.
Organised by Dyke Yaxley’s Business Advisory Specialist Cian Iddison, this year’s rematch took place at Shrewsbury Town FC’s home ground The Croud Meadow, and Dyke Yaxley fielded a team featuring staff from both its Shrewsbury and Telford offices.
Cian said: “We were really looking forward to the rematch as WR Partners beat us last year, so we were determined to reverse the result in this year’s game.
“Sadly though that didn’t happen as we lost 3-2 in the last few minutes of the game, but it was an extremely competitive match and we’re already planning our team tactics for next year!”
Cian said the aim of the event was to raise funds for Lingen Davies Cancer Support, and so far, the total had reached over £1,400.
“We’re extremely grateful to everyone who supported the match – there were over 200 supporters in the ground on the night – and we’d also like to thank Shropshire Business editor Carl Jones for his commentary on the microphone during the game.”
After the match, Steph Smith from Lingen Davies Cancer Support presented the trophy to the winning WR Partners team.
Lingen Davies Cancer Support aims to improve the lives of everyone impacted by cancer in the local community, as well as helping others understand and recognise the symptoms of cancer, and encouraging people to seek appropriate support sooner rather than later.
The charity helps the community throughout Shropshire, Telford and Wrekin, and Mid Wales, live life well – before, during and after cancer.
