Footballer is onside for junior team

A six-year-old footballer has won his professional footballer dad over to sponsor his team.

Nathan Blissett, nephew of Watford legend and England player Luther Blissett, is the founder of Telford-based mortgage advisory firm Dwello Mortgages - a business he launched early last year, but he still finds time to continue his playing career with Bromsgrove Sporting.

His son Roshan plays for DMC Inter’s under 7s side in the Walsall Junior Youth Football League and managed to get his dad onside when it came to sponsoring the team.

“Football is very much in the family’s blood and Roshan is no exception,” said Nathan. “He really enjoys playing for DMC Inter and I have to say I really enjoy watching him and his team play each week.

“There is no pressure on him from me to go into football later on. I am just happy for him to enjoy kicking a ball around with his friends and enjoying the fresh air and staying active.

“The Walsall Junior Football League is doing a magnificent job with its involvement in grassroots football and is one of the best-run grassroots leagues in the country. This level is vital for creating a pathway for young players but more importantly for just giving youngsters the chance to play.

“Sponsorship is also important in enabling teams to continue and Roshan has been talking about me getting involved in this way for a while - so I’m glad to help out by sponsoring the team through Dwello Mortgages.

"I am committed to playing a role in the community through Dwello and have also been delighted to sponsor the Under 13s Lawley Lightmoor FC Comets in Telford.”

Nathan has played for Romulus, Kidderminster, Cambridge, Hednesford, Bristol Rovers, Tranmere Rovers, Lincoln City, Torquay, Plymouth, Macclesfield, Solihull Moors, Maidenhead, Telford, Stafford Rangers and in February he joined Bromsgrove Sporting.

In a playing career spanning more than 12 years he has played in League 1, League 2, the National League, the National League North, the FA Cup, EFL Cup and National League playoffs - making more than 340 appearances and scoring more than 60 goals.

Nathan launched Dwello Mortgages in Telford, and he is supported by a team of non-executive directors from the financial services industry, as part of his plans to transition from the football pitch as a professional footballer and the company is committed to being a trusted guide in personal finance, ensuring the best mortgage deal for clients.
