New training courses have been added to the Shropshire Chamber of Commerce programme in response to demand from employers.
They include a special session on September 22 to explain the implications of Martyn’s Law, which could transform public safety policies at many business premises when it comes into effect next year.
The Chamber has partnered with specialist risk-management consultancy MoRServ to host a practical and plain-spoken workshop on September 22, from 10am to 12pm at the Chamber’s head office in Telford.
Events and training manager Grace Bywater said: “This workshop is ideal for SME owners and managers, venue operators across hospitality, retail, leisure and community spaces, event organisers, and anyone responsible for public safety or the management of premises.
“Martyn’s Law introduces new responsibilities for publicly accessible premises, ensuring organisations take ‘reasonably practicable’ steps to keep people safe in the event of a terrorist incident.
“The legislation is still evolving and often misunderstood, leaving many organisations unsure where to begin. This workshop aims to close that gap.”
The law was named in memory of Manchester Arena attack victim Martyn Hett, and requires certain UK public venues and event organisers to implement proportionate security and emergency response procedures to improve public safety.
MoRServ has developed dedicated Martyn’s Law support services to help businesses understand their risks and build practical and proportionate responses.
Their experts will guide attendees through the essentials: which businesses will be affected, what actions are required, and how to introduce change in a realistic and manageable way.
Grace said: “The session will give employers a clearer understanding of their legal responsibilities, insight into their current level of preparedness, and a practical starting point for next steps.”
The Martyn’s Law workshop is one of a series of new courses introduced to the Chamber programme. Other new courses include ‘Optimising Content for AI: An AEO and GEO Strategy for Your Business’ on September 17, and ‘Managing Difficult Conversations’ on November 12.
