Online radio station celebrates

Local online radio station Shropshire Live is celebrating its best month of listening figures since launching as over 15,000 people regularly tuned in during October.

The station started broadcasting in October 2022 and has proved popular with listeners who enjoy the mix of music, local news, chat and celebrity guests many of whom are appearing at venues locally like singer Paul Young, Supervet Noel Fitzpatrick and Shropshire’s own Carol Decker from T’Pau.

Editor Chris Pritchard said: “I would like to thank everyone who has tuned in, as an online station we can accurately measure how many people are listening and it’s pleasing to see our figures grow.

“We started with under 2,000 in our first month and have steadily grown the audience through being an active part of the community.

“It shows that there is an appetite for locally-produced radio. We have a great team of presenters and production staff who all live in Shropshire and are passionate about our area, and that shows on air.”

The station recently covered local flooding in the county, at a weekend when no other outlets were broadcasting local programming.

Chris added: “It’s at times when there is bad weather people need know the latest information, and in Shropshire many of our rural towns are badly affected by flooding on a regular basis. Our coverage helped keep people in the know both on air and online via our website. We had some great feedback.”

The station is also about to broadcast a local music show “The Salopian Mixtape” with former BBC Introducing presenters Michaela Wylde and Simon Berry, and “Genevieve Plays Folk” with Genevieve Tudor also a well-known and respected local presenter.

Shropshire Live broadcasts online at shropshirelive.com, via a free app and on smart speakers.
