Wine trail launched for festival

Tanners Wine Merchants has announced a new Wine Trail in celebration of Shrewsbury Food Festival on June 27 and 28.

Trail tickets are £25 per person and in return customers will receive a Tanners wine glass to keep, a trail booklet and a 100ml glass of wine at five venues across the town.

The trail can be completed in any order over the weekend, and at each of the five venues, you can choose between two different wines. The booklet will contain vouchers which can be swapped for the glass of wine at each venue.

It will be the first time that Tanners has run a wine trail around Shrewsbury. Although it is a fringe event for Shrewsbury Food Festival, you don’t need tickets to the festival to take part.

Christina Albon, marketing manager at Tanners, said, “We’re thrilled to be partnering with Shrewsbury Food Festival to launch our first-ever wine trail. The food festival brings thousands of food and drink loving visitors into the town centre every year; this trail will help them explore the best Shrewsbury venues and enjoy some fantastic wine."

Shrewsbury Food Festival is taking place at the Quarry and will host chef demonstrations, teach and taste sessions, a kids cookery school, a live music stage, a family entertainment stage, stands from local producers, makers and businesses, a field to fork area, a sports area, free kids’ activities and rides, street food with world cuisine, and a selection of bars featuring independent drinks producers.

Beth Heath from Shropshire Festivals said, “This new Wine Trail will only be taking place over Shrewsbury Food Festival weekend and it will be a lovely way to spend the day and what great value.

"If you’re coming along to the festival, you can dip in and out to complete the Wine Trail at the same time or attend on a different day to have one big weekend of fantastic food and drink."

Participants do not have to buy tickets to Shrewsbury Food Festival to take part. Tickets can be purchased from the Shrewsbury Food Festival website, and the trail booklet can be collected from Tanners or the festival admissions area on June 27 and 28.

Tanners will also be running a Mini Tasting Trail from their Shrewsbury cellars on Wyle Cop for customers wanting a more immediate tasting experience. There will be tasting tables with 50ml sample glasses and for £10 you can try 5 different wines.
