As the countdown begins to this year’s RAF Cosford Airshow on Sunday June 8, Shropshire-based Formula Networks is sharing the behind-the-scenes success story that helped last year’s event run without a hitch.
More than 50,000 people attended the 2024 Cosford Airshow, including 6,000 traders, staff and VIPs who relied on reliable internet access to process payments, access systems and stay connected across the airfield.
Working in partnership with Popup Wi-Fi (a brand of P&C Communications), Formula Networks installed a robust, site-wide wireless network in just three days.
From ticketing and trader transactions to secure back-office operations, the wireless service kept the airshow running smoothly. And no one really noticed the network on the day – which really was the point.
Stuart Miles, founder of Formula Networks, said “It was a true pop-up network challenge. With limited time and few structures to work from, we had to be smart about how and where we installed equipment. But the result was a stable, high-speed network ready for the show day.”
The system used Starlink satellite broadband combined with high speed wireless links and battery-powered hotspots, with everything managed remotely through a central dashboard.
As to what the client thought about it all, event director Marilyn Summers said"The Wi-Fi network provided by Formula Networks at the 2024 RAF Cosford Airshow played a key role in supporting our traders, VIP guests and event operations.
"Their technical expertise and proactive support contributed to the smooth running of the event. We are pleased to be working with Formula Networks again for the 2025 show, with planning already well under way."
