Cricketer joins county firm

A budding cricketer has landed a new job while on the field of play.

Michael Francis, 29, of Lawley, has been taken on by Unique Copiers, based in St George’s, after meeting owner Adrian Casey at Wellington Cricket Club.

Having worked in retail at DW Sports, Michael has decided to take on a career change and is being trained as an engineer at the family run firm, which supplies photocopiers and copying services to schools and businesses across Shropshire and beyond.

He said: “It is great to have found this new role. I really enjoyed the cricket but didn’t expect it to lead to this - it’s going to be interesting playing at the weekend with my boss now but I’m sure it won’t affect the work I can do for Unique Copiers.

“I saw the opportunity for progression in this field more so than my previous job and feel really excited about the future.

“The training is hard and there is a lot to learn but I know I can do it and then help to keep the businesses and school of Shropshire and beyond on top of all their copying needs.”

Unique Copiers has been established for over 30 years and still has clients from when they first started.

The latest addition joins the seven current members of staff at their headquarters on St George’s Road Industrial Estate.

Mr Casey said: “I have played cricket in Wellington for a year and have met many people there, but after talking to Michael I was struck by his dedication and eagerness to learn.

“I am delighted that we have the capacity to offer him a role which will play to his strengths and be a great addition to our business.

“He has been enjoying his course so far and has been learning a lot, he will be in training for a while to ensure we still offer the best quality service we always have done to our customers.”
