Briefing to employers

Around 70 people from the local business community attended a briefing at Telford College of Arts and Technology to gather information about important changes to the running of apprenticeships. 

It was organised to explain how the funding of apprenticeship programmes across England is due to change this year with the introduction of the Government’s new apprenticeship levy. 

The guest speaker was Beej Kaczmarczyk, director of Learning Curve Group, and well known in the further education sector for his expertise and knowledge, while guests included the mayor of Telford & Wrekin, Councillor Rae Evans. 

Dale Kynaston, TCAT’s business development manager, said: “We have received some excellent feedback on the event. 

“Delegates enjoyed a breakfast networking session before the briefing started, and were given the opportunity to participate in question and answer sessions throughout the morning. 

“Several attendees also took the opportunity of a tour around the college.” 

TCAT is already working with a number of local companies to help identify internal development opportunities, recruit and train new team members, and ensure they get access to available funding. 

Dale added: “Shropshire companies may be able to access Government support, even if they haven’t contributed to the Apprenticeship levy – and Beej explained how this works.”
