Telford college trains warehouse workers

Telford College of Arts and Technology is helping to train hundreds of warehouse staff and drivers to work for supply chain syncreon, across the West Midlands.

The college is running a series of two-week training programmes for up to 350 new staff, who will be based at a number of businesses across the West Midlands.

They include Jaguar Land Rover’s Engine Manufacturing Centre on the i54 business park near Wolverhampton.

Working in partnership with Job Centre Plus, and Industria Personnel, more than 500 warehouse staff and fork-lift truck drivers have already been through the programme, which is now being delivered in four West Midlands towns.

Craig Howard, from the business development team at TCAT, said: “The team at syncreon continue to expand rapidly, and are looking to take on a hundreds of new staff before September.

“We have been running level two warehouse and storage courses for syncreon, as well as level two customer service, employability programmes and fork-lift truck training.

“We are currently attracting more than a dozen new students each week for these courses – initially we had only intended to run them for up to six weeks, but they are proving so successful that we currently have at least one new programme beginning every week.”

Craig said the partnership was the culmination of a lengthy period of planning.

“The programme has gone from strength to strength. It now runs weekly in Wolverhampton, monthly in Walsall and regularly in Willenhall and Dudley.

“Telford College is playing a key role in providing crucial employment opportunities and training for people right across the West Midlands.”
